Areas of Expertise
I am a practicing Marriage and Family Therapist and supervisor in the state of Texas and an approved supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). I have provided therapy for individuals, couples, and families in Texas since 2003, when I was training at the Houston Galveston Institute as a master’s level learner/student therapist. I am an affirming practitioner and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds into practice. My experience has been with clients who have had difficulty accessing mental health services and those who have had struggles around sexuality, gender identity, religious and spiritual trauma, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people who need services in Spanish.
Teaching Philosophy
My views of teaching and learning are informed by Collaborative-Dialogic Practices, where through relational experiences, students and instructor each have a responsibility to be prepared to share knowledge, ideas, and personal philosophies about the subject being studied. Knowledge is a body of information that takes shape through the relationship of the people engaged in co-creating and generating it through a process of shared inquiry for which both instructor and students are responsible. The knowledge each student expects to gain from the educational experiences with me is formed and generated by what and how each student expresses their desire to learn and their curiosity. As we share our curiosities as co-learners, we can take on the task of co-creating that knowledge and make meaning about the surrounding discussions based on how we approach each person’s ideas and learning objectives.
Outside Interests
Community service and volunteering, serving as a sexuality educator for adolescents through the Our Whole Lives Program (7th grade-high school). I spend time with my partner of over 24 years, our two children, dog, cat, and as many plants as I can heal! I love gardening, poetry, writing, building/making things with my hands, cycling, painting, furniture redesign and rehab, DIY projects, and juggling.
